The Service Projects Committee has agreed to adopt First Lady, Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative. Although there is a national impetus to address the issue of childhood obesity, it has special importance for our state because 41% of children in Mississippi are overweight or obese!

Our primary goal is to promote a more healthful and active lifestyle for the children in the Jackson metro area and make a significant impact in the community by providing needed capital improvements to the I.S. Sanders Branch of the YMCA.

A Special Message

On behalf of the entire membership of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter, we invite you to roll up your sleeves, get on board and get involved with the “Let’s Move” public service project. Childhood obesity is at an alarming level in our nation. It is devastating our communities and threatening the very lives of our children. We must act now -- before it is too late to save this generation from the burden of chronic poor health and the tragedy of a shortened lifespan.

We welcome the support of businesses, government agencies, community groups and individuals who are motivated to contribute financially to this city-wide campaign; to offer your services as volunteers; to encourage and support participants to stay in the program.

This is a big challenge. This is an important issue. This is an incredible opportunity to change lives. Jackson, “Let’s Move!”

For more information about lending your support, please email president@jacksonmsalumnae.org.
